Atelier T2

Now let's visit atelier “T2,” where dials and hands are installed and movements are inserted into cases. At Frederique Constant and Alpina, sets of ten fully assembled and finely adjusted movements are placed in plastic boxes for safe storage and convenient transport from one inhouse workplace to another. Atelier “T2” receives these containers and begins to work systematically with each box's tenfold content. Dials and hands are installed first. This may sound like a simple task, but it's easier said than done. The artisan who performs this exacting work must assure that all parts have sufficient vertical play so that none of the watch's hands, in any position, ever touches another hand and/ or the dial. Along with enormous manual dexterity, this job also demands a high degree of responsibility. After the hands have been installed, the crown is manually turned to propel each hand through 24 hours. Two orbits around the dial are necessary in order to verify the correct advance of the date display, which should switch to show the next day's date a few minutes before or after midnight.
