Some artists and designers, seized by an inspiration that has little to do with nostalgia, have adopted what may have been perceived as an aging relic to inject it with what looks like the makings of a brightly promising future. xavier Veilhan, for instance, who was the guest of Versailles in 2009 as the successor to Jeff Koons, in 2010 created the first monochrome blue RAL 5015 speedboat named after yves Klein, in collaboration with the Austrian boatyard, Frauscher, in 2012. A second limited edition in a variant blue is in production. Meanwhile, Riva has unveiled at the prestigious fine art gagosian gallery on New york's Madison Avenue, among Picasso, Cy Twombly and Robert Ryman paintings, Australian designer Marc Newson's minimalist interpretation of the Aquariva runabout, which will only be produced one unit at a time, in the same manner as a work of art. Moreover, as recent auctions have demonstrated, art and the runabout are not exactly unrelated in concept. When Sotheby's was engaged to dispose of gunther Sachs's art collection in May 2012, the Super Ariston owned by the king of long nights in St. Moritz achieved almost Û500,000, five times its estimate.
