Book live your passion

Peter: During my time at Philips, I already owned a small business which had been officially established in 1988. It was based on accessible design software for personal computers with the Windows operating system. I didn't write any programs myself. Rather, my activities were built on an existing program called “Micrographics.” In the evenings after work, I had taught myself how to use it to design things. It was a hobby and a passion at first, but it was also very important to me. Aletta: We saw watches everywhere then. On TV, in magazines, on posters: watches, watches, watches! It was the end of the “Quartz Crisis.” Citizen and Seiko predominated with an 80% share of the market in Hong Kong. Swiss brands were also represented, but not so strongly. Then the first Chinese brands appeared with wristwatches that were fitted with movements from Seiko and Citizen. Peter: Watches have always interested me. When Swatch first came onto the market, I was at Harvard University and I did a case study about watches. Aletta: Peter asked me one day why Chinese watches looked so abominably ugly. They were certainly reliable and their designs were modern, but the watches themselves simply weren't attractive. Peter: Every time I glanced at my classical watch from Bucherer, I saw a paradigmatic example of a timepiece with an appealing exterior. From that moment on, I devoted greater attention to the theme. I conducted various investigations here in Hong Kong on Saturday mornings. First, I wanted to know where the cases, dials and hands were made.
